Rabbi Alana Alpert

Executive Director

Rabbi Alpert graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Community Studies, writing her thesis on the then burgeoning JewishSocial Justice Movement. After her time in AVODAH: the Jewish Service Corps, Rabbi Alpert worked as a Community Organizer at NY Jobs with Justice and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. Thrilled to be reclaiming the Detroit roots her grandmother left behind, she began serving Congregation T’chiyah upon ordination from Hebrew College in 2014. Rabbi Alpert co-led Project Hayei Sarah, a community of emerging Jewish leaders speaking out about human rights abuses in Hebron, for five years. She is passionate about the intersection of Jewish spiritual practice and social change and the integration of the pastoral and the political. In her free time she enjoys swimming, pottery, hammocks and karaoke.
